What my clients say...

Fantastic service for a job that was less than ideal - handled professionally and with a friendly attitude. Will definitely book again for our next sweep.

Dominic Zammit

We phoned The Blackdown Chimney Sweep and asked if he could fit us in a few days before Christmas. He came early the next day and ended up staying until after lunch as 6 bags of birds nest twigs came out of the chimney. Now the AGA and chimney work beautifully. Very grateful for the speedy service, professional job and well priced. Thank you!

Marcus and Rosie

Tim was very professional and super friendly as well. Managed to fit in a chimney sweep for a property I recently purchased sooner than I had expected. Would recommend to anyone looking for a chimney sweep in the Taunton area and beyond.

Tim was incredibly helpful, friendly and did a great job for us. Would definitely recommend, and will be letting our local friends know too!

Claire M - Google review

First and foremost Tim was very down to earth , very honest guy and a good sense of humour. He was very officiant with the job he did even used camera equipment to make sure both fires were clear and safe to use . Would highly recommend Tim , made our family feel at ease knowing he was doing the job. Very very reasonable price and 1st class service . The mother in law has booked him now , next year I will be calling TIm again without a doubt. Thank you so much Tim.

Useful things to know...

Insurance approved certificates issued

Upon completion of the sweep, provided I am satisfied that the chimney and appliance  are in safe working order, I will issue a safety certificate which is a necessary compliance for your house insurance.

Public liability to £5million

I can present relevant documentation on request.

CCTV inspections

I use equipment which produces high quality infra-red or colour images of the inside of your flue/steel liner. This can be invaluable in locating potential / current problems or simply checking there is no blockage left after the cleaning process.

Carbon Monoxide alarms installed

Landlords are required by regulation to fit a CO alarm on each storey of the property and in every room with a fuel burning appliance. For the low cost of a good quality alarm, it is highly worthwhile to ensure peace of mind in your household.

Fire rope replaced / stoves serviced

I keep a large store of different diameter fire rope with me whilst out sweeping, and can replace any worn / missing rope where needed. Other servicing includes replacing cracked glass and other stove parts such as baffles and log guards. These will all need to be ordered in.

Fire bricks replaced

Firebricks regularly deteriorate and fall apart over time. Some stoves have very specific shaped fire bricks which i can order and fit. I can also cut and replace more standard shaped fire bricks myself using high quality vermiculite board.

Birds nests / blockages removed

When birds have been nesting in a chimney, it can cause a huge blockage, consisting of several large bags of twigs, debris and general bird waste (to put it politely…). I will ensure every last trace is gone, confirming this by use of the camera equipment. Soot buildup can also cause a dangerous narrowing of the flue, sometimes requiring repeated sweeping and camera confirmation until it has been removed.

Pricing

Prices can vary according to the type of appliance and nature of installation. Large inglenooks / open flues can cost a little more than lined wood burner flues. Birds nest removal generally start at £100 depending on the length of time it takes to safely remove the blockage. I will give discounts when there is multiple sweeps in the same property, or if you and your neighbours were to book a sweep on the same day.

Timings and requirements

On average, a single sweep will take around an hour to complete, but please allow up to two hours for the process. Although i do my best to arrive at the allotted time, occasionally the previous sweep can take longer than expected and I’ll telephone to let you know. I will require access to a 240v socket nearby, and i’m happy to move any furniture to provide space for myself and the equipment in front of the fireplace.
